Micronational currency systems

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Micronational currency systems describe the self-declared official currencies of micronations. These currencies are usually created to legitimise the micronations that produce them and few of these currencies are recognised outside these micronations. However some are prized by collectors and may be minted in precious metals and in limited numbers.

[edit] History

The first examples of independent currency systems in the history of micronations include the Puffin, which was created by Martin Coles Harman and issued in Lundy in 1929. The issue included the Half Puffin and One Puffin.

On the 22 June 2003 the Unrecognised States Numismatic Society was founded, focusing on coins minted by unrecognised states and micronations.
