Micromanipulator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A micromanipulator is a device which is used to physically interact with a sample under a microscope. For example, a micromanipulator could be used to pierce a cell wall with a micropipette to extract fluid from inside the cell. A micromanipulator typically allows precise positioning in three dimensions and may be made up of linear stages and/or rotary stages. Micromanipulators may be purely mechanical in nature, or may be operated by electric motors or hydraulics.
