Microdontosaurus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Microdontosaurus" (meaning "tiny-toothed lizard") is the name given to an as yet undescribed genus of dinosaur from China. There are at least two different age ranges and assignments given to this name, unsurprising for an informal name. One identification, as given by The Dinosaur Encyclopaedia, claims the name refers to a sauropod from the Late Cretaceous. The other identification, as given in this Dinosaur Mailing List post, is that the name is for a melanorosaurid prosauropod, which would make the animal either from the Late Triassic or Early Jurassic. Both agree that the type species would be "M. dayensis", which was first coined by Zhao in 1985. As with other informal names created by Zhao in 1985 or 1983, it has not been used since then, and may have been redescribed under another name.
