Micky Fenton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Micky Fenton (30 October 1913 – 5 February 2003) was an English footballer for Middlesbrough either side of World War II.
Fenton is fifth in the Boro all time goalscoring charts with 162 goals. This record is despite the fact that World War II limited his appearances to 269 over his career spanning 17 years.
He made his debut in 1933, gradually replacing George Camsell as Boro's leading goalscorer. He gained a solitary England cap against Scotland in 1938.
After the war, Fenton continued his scoring record, ending as top goalscorer for the next three seasons.
Despite being wanted by Everton, Fenton continued his career on Teesside, only ever playing for Middlesbrough, retiring in 1950 to join the backroom staff.
Micky died in Stockton-on-Tees in 2003 aged 89.
