[edit] History and Concept
Roger Rabbit was recognized as a lucrative character by Disney after the release of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and an ambitious set of attractions based on the movie was developed for Disney theme parks. Roger Rabbit was even set to be the star of his own land, behind Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland, called Hollywoodland. Meanwhile, over at the Magic Kingdom, a new land behind Fantasyland was being developed in honor of Mickey Mouse's sixtieth birthday, aptly named Mickey's Birthdayland. There were also set to be attractions based on Roger Rabbit, Judge Doom and Baby Herman opening in a major expansion at the Disney's Hollywood Studios and Tokyo Disneyland, but after the financial disaster of the Disneyland Resort Paris, plans were dramatically cut back.
Hollywoodland was canceled, and was combined with the idea of Mickey's Birthdayland as well as a concept found in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, to form Mickey's Toontown, which opened in 1993 behind Fantasyland at Disneyland. Mickey's Birthdayland opened as planned in 1988 before Euro Disney, then was renamed Mickey's Starland in 1990, and finally was expanded as a sister to Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland and was revonated in 1996 to re-open as Mickey's Toontown Fair.

[edit] Trivia
- The utilidors are accessible to all of the lands but Toontown Fair.
- The theme of Birthdayland was originally Duckburg, rather than Toontown, but after the refurbishment a statue of Duckburg's founder, Cornelius Coot is still in front of the hall of fame tent, ironically.
- One of its first popular attractions wasn't a ride, but an animal. A cow named Minnie-Moo, who had a Mickey silhouette on her side. After it reopened she was moved to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground where she died in the summer of 2001.
- Goofy's Barnstormer is where Grandma Ducks Petting Farm, which held the cow and other animals, used to be.
- The barn you go through on the Barnstormer is the actual barn that held the animals.
- Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Chip 'n Dale, Goofy, and Donald Duck appear almost every day in the hall of fame tent.
- Toontown Fair has its own radio station. W-A-C-K-Y Radio with DJ Red Barn. He plays all country all the toon.
