Michelstadt is a town in the state of Hesse, Germany, in the district Odenwaldkreis. It is the former seat of the Counts of Erbach-Fürstenau and before them the seat of Einhardt, the secretary of Charlemagne.

Michelstadt is noted as a center of ivory carving. Its town hall, which also is a medieval weighing house, is over 500 years old, and is one of the most frequently photographed buildings in Hessen.
