Michaela McQueen (born 4 May 1991) [1] is a fictional character on the long-running British Channel 4 television soap opera Hollyoaks.
She is played by actress Hollie-Jay Bowes and was the first McQueen known in Hollyoaks. However she was initially called Michaela Jones before her family were introduced.

[edit] Character History
Mischievous when she wants to be, calculating when she needs to be, Michaela is nonetheless a loyal friend and close ally to those she thinks matters.
[edit] Arrival
Michaela initially appeared only as a mate to Amy Barnes. She pressured Amy into having sex with her short-term boyfriend, Ste Hay, so that her boyfriend, Wayne Tunnicliffe (Ste's mate), wouldn't dump her. Michaela claimed she had had sex with her previous boyfriend, Paul, and that a girl had to put out in order to attract boys. When Ste dumped Amy, Michaela's nasty streak became apparent as she abandoned her friend and teased her, before going off with Wayne and Ste, leaving Amy upset and alone. When Amy stood up to her, they had a fight in the playground. However, the next day Michaela got a taste of her own medicine when she was dumped by Wayne. He dumped her by text message, saying he only went out with her because she was easy. Amy and Michaela reconciled as friends, but then Michaela led her to shoplifting.
Michaela found out about Amy's teen pregnancy but kept her secret.
[edit] Car crash
Amy, who got back together with Ste, encouraged him to steal a car and Amy, Ste, Michaela, Josh and Fletch went joyriding. After much speeding and reckless driving the car crashed. Michaela and the other passengers where thrown around the car as the car turned upside down several times until it landed on its wheels. Ste (who was driving the car) ran away and Michaela, Josh and Fletch escaped with Cuts and bruises but Amy (who wasn't wearing a seatbelt) was seriously injured. Michaela, Josh and Fletch where arrested while Amy Was taken to hospital. After spending the night in a police cell Michaela visited Amy in hospital and nearly told the Barnes family about Amy's pregnancy, but just as she was about to confess, Amy (who was unconscious from the crash) awoke. Amy tried to talk to Michaela at her sister Mercedes' birthday party, but Michaela didn't want anything to do with Amy due to the car crash (Michaela's reputation as a 'McQueen' encouraging the blame). Michaela ended the friendship stating Amy was selfish.
[edit] Ruining Christmas
Concerned at the lack of a father figure in her life, Michaela discovered her father's address in her mother's handbag. They arranged a meeting, where her father apologised for not trying harder to be involved in her life, claiming Michaela's mother Myra stopped him from seeing his kids (Michaela, John Paul and Carmel). After inviting him back to the house to surprise the family, Michaela discovered he was not to be trusted after all. Returning from an errand to the shop, she found out he has made off with the family's possessions, alcohol and Christmas presents. Initially angry, her family forgave her, seeing how upset she was at being dumped, betrayed and ruining the family's Christmas.
[edit] Seeing Sonny
Michaela started dating her friend Sasha's brother Sonny Valentine, and comforted Amy after the birth of her daughter Leah.
Michaela and Sonny planned to sleep together, but were interrupted by Sonny's brother Calvin. Despite having strong feelings for Michaela, Sonny was concerned about what his mates would think of the relationship. Michaela was outraged when she discovered Sonny had told everyone that he had been sleeping with her sister Mercedes, and was embarrassed about going out with Michaela. The pair later got back together, and were arrested for shoplifting on Michaela's sixteenth birthday. Michaela received a caution from Calvin. Sonny lost his virginity to Michaela that night, but soon left Hollyoaks to stay with his aunt, leaving Michaela heartbroken.
[edit] Selling Amy's Story
Michaela sold the story about Amy's pregancy, much to the chagrin of the Barnes family, so that she could use the money she received for the story to go on holiday. This caused Amy's mum Kathy to fly off the handle, and when the Barnes family discovered what she had done Michaela was already on holiday with Sasha Valentine. Upon her return, Amy was angry with her but their friendship soon resumed thanks to the efforts of Sasha Valentine.

Michaela began flirting with Fletch, but she has revealed that she doesn't actually like him, and thought if she was his girlfriend she could be in Fletch's band. Michaela invited Fletch back to her house, to have sex. Michaela and Sasha competed over his affection, and Sasha nearly had sex with him, but Michaela walked in on them and told Sasha about them having sex. Sasha kicked them both out, crying. Due to the help of Amy, Michaela and Sasha have resolved their differences.

Michaela slept with Ste Hay's mate Nige and made Josh and Fletch let him in their band, The Baby Diego's.
Ste and Nige were a further bad influence on Michaela. She began smoking cannabis, one day she got caught by Myra and the next day Michaela got drunk and smoked some weed. To try to help sort her out, Myra asked the priest Michaela had a crush on, Kieron Hobbs, to take Michaela to a soup kitchen, but she was horrified when a homeless man accidentally spit in her face. When Michaela saw Kieron and Myra laughing about her, she was humiliated.
She also began cutting school more and more frequently. When Myra found out Michaela was home drunk, she went upstairs to tell her off. They argued, Myra hit Michaela and Michaela moved out of the McQueen's house and into Amy and Ste's. She returned home when Ste framed her for stealing Amy's money, and Amy threw her out.
[edit] Niall's revenge
Niall Rafferty arrived in the village and started befriending the McQueens, but none of them knew that Niall is Myra's long lost son who wants revenge on every member of the McQueen family. Michaela was the first on Niall's hit list, and as Niall knew Michaela has recently been taking drugs, Niall spiked Michaela's drink. When she went upstairs and passed out Niall followed her upstairs and Niall secretly injected Michaela with heroin he then planted a needle, a syringe and heroin next to her. When Myra, John Paul and Carmel found her upstairs unconscious they rushed her to hospital.
At the hospital, Myra found out Michaela had had a heroin overdose. None of the McQueen's knew Niall was the person who injected Michaela with heroin, and didn't believe her when she awoke in hospital and told them that she was not a heroin addict. When Michaela returned home, Myra kept a close eye on Michaela, much to her annoyance. Later, after constantly being accused of being addicted to heroin, Niall offered for her to stay at his until things were sorted at home. Niall was nice to Michaela and told her that he believed her when she said she did not take heroin. Niall suggested that Michaela should have a AIDS test, Jacqui saw them and went with them. When they arrived Michaela had the test and told Jacqui and Niall that it was two early to tell if Michaela had AIDS or not, meaning Michaela could have AIDS. Niall, Jacqui and Michaela had a talk in Il Gnosh and told her they would help her with anything. Michaela and Jacqui left, Niall remained and viewers saw that he had a huge grin on his face.
Niall convinced Michaela she had injected herself, and meanwhile, the school had to face random locker inspections due to her overdose. No one believed her when she claimed she had been injected against her will.
[edit] The Girl No One Believed
Fletch was behaving strangely before a performance at the Dog. Michaela searched through his belongings and found a packet of heroin. She tried to get rid of the drugs, but Leo Valentine caught her with the packet, and due to her recent overdose, no one believed her when she claimed her innocence.
The only person who stayed by her side was Josh, but that was soon strained when she told him she'd seen his brother Rhys kissing his sister Beth. When confronted by Josh, they claimed Michaela was an unreliable drug addict and was lying to get revenge because Rhys had dumped Mercedes. Josh sided with his brother, and viciously turned against Michaela. Mercedes also refused to believe her.
When Mercedes saw Beth and Rhys leave a family dinner early to return home, she convinced Beth's fiance Gilly to follow them. Gilly heard them having sex, and soon the entire family as well as Mercedes knew. Josh patched up his friendship with Michaela, and together they set Fletch up so he took Josh's money in order to buy drugs.
