Steger was born as the third out of four sons. He is of Ecuadorian, Austrian and Norwegian descent and he graduated honors achieving a BA degree in Theatre and a minor in Spanish.

Steger started his career appearing in several commercials and guest starred in VR Troopers in 1994. In 2005, he co-starred in the independent film 3 Girls and the Golden Cocoon and after appearing as Sniper in NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service in 2005, he had a recurring role in The Winner in 2007.
As of 2007, Steger appears in several Disney Channel productions. He guest starred as Guillermo Montoya in Hannah Montana and he has a co-starring role in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie The Cheetah Girls: One World, which will be released on August 22, 2008.
He has been confirmed as a lead actor in the upcoming 90210 on the CW.[1]
