Michael Smith (newspaper reporter)

Michael Smith is a British journalist for The Times and the New Statesman who specialises in defence issues. He gained attention for his role with the Downing Street memo.

He won a British Press Award in 2006 for specialist of the year.[1]

He has also contributed to The Raw Story and has authored several books, including the 2006 book Killer Elite: The Inside Story of America's Most Secret Special Operations Team.

Before his career as a journalist, he was a member of the British Army and worked in intelligence operations.
