Career highlights

Michael Shields (born 1986) is an Irish sportsperson, formerly playing Gaelic football, and now playing Australian rules football with the Carlton Football Club in Melbourne.

Shields played Gaelic football with his local club St. Finbarr's and with the Cork senior inter-county team. He won a All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship title with Cork in 2007.

On 28 November 2007, following a successful three-week trial[1] with top level Australian rules football club Carlton, Shields was signed to a two-year international rookie contract[2]. He is the third Cork native to sign with the club, joining former hurlers Setanta and Aisake Ó hAilpín.
