Michael Ryan Barrett

Michael Ryan Barrett was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 14th, 1951. Barrett was sworn in as a U.S. federal judge in the Southwestern District of Ohio on June 18th, 2006. Barrett's nomination was announced on December 16th, 2005 and was confirmed on May 4th, 2006 by a vote of 90-0 in the U.S. Senate.

Barrett graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1969 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Cincinnati in 1974. Barrett attended Wabash College in Wabash, Indiana from 1969-1970 prior to enrolling at the University of Cincinnati. Barrett attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law and received his J.D. in 1977. Barrett was admitted to the Bar in Ohio in 1977. He served as a State of Ohio Admistrative Hearing Officer from 1977-1978. Barrett joined the Hamilton Country Prosecutor's Office in 1978. Barrett served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and Chief Assistant between 1978-1984. In 1984, Barrett joined the firm Grayden, Head & Ritchey. Barrett began as an associate and became partner at Grayden Head. He practiced law at Grayden, Head & Ritchey from 1984-1994. In 1995, Barrett joined the firm of his brother, Francis Barrett, Barrett&Weber and became a shareholder. He practiced at Barrett&Weber from 1995 until his judicial nomination in December of 2005. Barrett praticed law for nearly 30 years before he was nominated by President George W. Bush and approved by the U.S. Senate to the federal courts system in 2006.

Barrett served as Chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Party from 2001-2005 and was instrumental in President Bush's victory in Ohio in the 2004 General Election. He has one son, William Michael Ryan Barrett (September 11th, 1987).
