Michael Reiterer (* 29 September 1954 in Innsbruck) a former Austrian diplomat presented his credentials as the first Ambassador of the European Commission to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein in January and March 2007 respectively. Previous postings include Minister/Deputy Head of the EC Delegation to Japan; Counselor for the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) as well as positions at the Missions of Austria to the European Union and the GATT. He was also Deputy Austrian Trade Commissioner to West Africa and Japan and served as Deputy Director General for European Integration Policy of the Economic Chamber of Austria.

Michael Reiterer studied law at the University of Innsbruck from where graduated as Dr. jur in 1978. He obtained post graduate diplomas in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University, Bologna Center (1979) and the Graduate Institute of International Relations (HEI) in Geneva (1985). In 2005 he became adjunct professor (‘Dozent’) for international politics at the University of Innsbruck, Austria.

The Delegation was officially inaugurated on 3 April 2007 by the Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner, then Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey and the Foreign Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Rita Kieber-Beck.
