Michael R. Raffery served as an editor of the Grit and as mayor of Williamsport, Pennsylvania in the United States from 2000 to 2004.
Rafferty, a native of Williamsport, graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD. He is married to the former Patricia Roth and they have five children and six grandchildren.
Rafferty worked for Williamsport newspapers, and became the editor of GRIT until Stauffer Communications Inc. moved it from Williamsport to Topeka, Kansas in 1993. He served on Williamsport City Council nine years, including six as council president, before becoming mayor in 2000. Given that he was forced to run for the office three times in three years, he once said, "I love being mayor; it's running for mayor that I hate."[citation needed] After losing in the 2004 election, Rafferty has worked in his family photo business and as editor of a local weekly newspaper Webb Weekly.
