Michael R. Burns joined Lions Gate Entertainment's Board of Directors in 1999 and became Vice Chairman in March 2000.
Previously, Burns served for nine years as managing director and head of Prudential Securities’ Los Angeles investment banking office. While at Prudential, he specialized in raising equity within the media and entertainment industry. Prior to joining Prudential, he spent nine years at Shearson Lehman Brothers (now Citigroup Smith Barney) in New York and Los Angeles. Burns has served as chairman of Ignite Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based entertainment production company, was cofounder of the Hollywood Stock Exchange, and serves as chairman and cofounder of Novica.com.
Burns has recently been profiled or featured in such varied major media outlets as AMC Sunday Morning Shootout, Barron's, BloombergTV, Business Week, CBS MarketWatch, CNBC "Power Lunch", the Financial Times, Fortune, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.[citation needed]
Burns graduated with a B.S. from Arizona State University and received his M.B.A. from the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles.
