Michael Polley

The Honourable Michael Robert Polley (born November 4, 1949, Westbury, Tasmania) is an Australian Labor Party politician and member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly in the Division of Lyons. First elected in 1972 at age 21 he is one currently the longest serving members of the Tasmanian parliament. He is married with two sons and one daughter.
Alththough he served only briefly as a Minister in the government of premier Doug Lowe, Polley is regarded as a significant player 'behind the scenes'. His wife is Mayor of a Tasmanian council, on which his son also serves. His sister is a member of the Australian Senate.
In 1989 during the Field government he was made the speaker of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. He became speaker again in 1998 when Labor won government. He was minister for national parks 1976-1981.
In the Tasmanian state election 2006, Polley topped the poll and received the highest primary vote in Lyons.
