Michael Pointer was the original drummer in British progressive rock band Marillion; he appeared on the band's debut EP Market Square Heroes and also on their debut LP Script for a Jester's Tear.
However, the other band members were often unhappy with his performances, and he was fired from the band in 1983, to be replaced by Ian Mosley. Pointer's final performance with the band was at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England, on April 18, 1983. This performance was filmed and released under the name Recital of the Script.
Pointer is a founder and a current member of the influential British progressive band Arena (band) where he plays with the known keyboardist Clive Nolan (from Pendragon).
