Assistant Commissioner Michael Phelan was appointed as the Chief Police Officer of the Australian Capital Territory Police in September 2007.

Mr Phelan started in the AFP (of which ACT policing is a part) in 1985. He was promoted to the rank of superintendent 15 years later, before becoming a commander in 2002 and assistant commissioner in 2004.
