Michael Newrzella

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Newrzella (September 1967 - June 27, 1993) was a German police officer and member of the GSG 9. He was shot and killed during an attempt to arrest Wolfgang Grams and Birgit Hogefeld two executive level members of the Red Army Faction. Grams was also killed during this joint operation by the GSG 9 and two other national and local police commands. To date the origin of both fatal shots and the exact circumstances of the Bad Kleinen operation are still disputed. The official findings were that Grams shot Newrzella during the early stage of the arrest attempt and that Grams, after receiving multiple wounds committed suicide on the railway tracks.
