Professor Michael Mainelli is the Gresham Professor of Commerce at Gresham College in London. Dr. Mainelli, born in December 1958, is a qualified accountant, computer specialist and management consultant with a degree from Harvard in government with economics, plus a further year of mathematics and engineering at Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London. The theme of his programme at Gresham College is “Society’s Commercial Choice - Risks and Rewards of Markets”. The emphasis was on the proper functioning of markets in realising societal goals, and the obligation on society to try and use market forces wherever suitable, as opposed to unnecessary regulation, hidden subsidy or inappropriate taxation.
Michael is Chairman and full-time Director of The Z/Yen Group, posts he has held since Z/Yen was founded in 1994 [1]. He is also a non-executive Director of several organisations, including UKAS, Sirius Exploration and City Axis.
Michael Mainelli is author, together with Ian Harris, of the acclaimed humorous risk/reward management novel, Clean Business Cuisine: Now and Z/Yen, published in 2000.
