Michael Macklin

Dr Michael Macklin (b. 25 February 1943) is an Australian educator and fundraiser who was an Australian Democrats senator for Queensland, (1981-1990).
Macklin played a pivotal role in the important first parliamentary decade of his fledgling party. He was the party's deputy Senate leader under Janine Haines and was appointed interim leader from her resignation in February, 1990, until 30 June, 1990, when his choice to retire from the Senate took effect. Janet Powell then became Senate leader, having been duly elected by the party's rank and file. Macklin was replaced by Cheryl Kernot who had been elected as senator for Queensland at the March election.
After retirement he became National President of the Australian Democrats.
He has a Ph.D. in education.
