Michael Joseph Melloy

Michael Joseph Melloy (born January 15, 1948, Dubuque, Iowa) is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

[edit] Nomination and confirmation

He was nominated to that court by President George W. Bush on September 4, 2001 to fill a seat vacated by Judge George C. Fagg. The United States Senate confirmed him 91-0 on February 11, 2002. Prior to joining the Eighth Circuit, Melloy was a U.S. District Judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa from August 17, 1992.

Melloy graduated from Loras College in 1970 with a B.A., and earned his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1974.

Prior to joining the federal bench, Melloy was in private practice in Dubuque from 1974 to 1986. Melloy also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve.
