Michael J. Alexander

Michael Joseph Alexander is a British academic. He held the Berry Chair of English Literature at the University of St Andrews until his retirement in 2003. He is particularly well-known for his verse translation of Beowulf.
He was educated at Downside School, and the Universities of Oxford, Perugia, and Princeton. He is currently Honorary Professor at St Andrews University. [1] Professor Alexander is renowned throughout the world as a translator of Old English verse: his verse translation of Beowulf has been singled out for particular praise. [2]
