Michael Gerard Ingham (born 9 July 1980 in Preston, England) is an English-born Northern Irish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for York City. He has been capped twice for Northern Ireland.
[edit] Career
Ingham started his career at Cliftonville before joining Sunderland but could not break into the first team.
Ingham holds an unusual record regarding Hull City. He was the last away goalkeeper to play at Boothferry Park and also the first away goalkeeper to play at the KC Stadium.[1]
He was named in the Northern Ireland squad for their tour of the Caribbean in May 2004.[2] However, he dislocated a finger in training in June, which meant he missed out on making his debut for the team.[3] He eventually won his first cap in a 4–1 defeat against Germany on 4 June 2005, coming on as a substitute for Maik Taylor.[4]
He was loaned to a number of lower league clubs to gain experience but after 5 years and only 4 appearances he joined Wrexham on a free transfer in 2006. He was released by Wrexham in May 2007 at the end of the 2006–07 season.[5]
On 17 August 2007 he joined Hereford United on a month's contract as goalkeeping cover to Wayne Brown.[6] He later signed a contract until the end of the season.
He made just three competitive appearances for Hereford in the 2007-08 season, two of which came in the Herefordshire Senior Cup. His other match was in the Football League Trophy against Yeovil Town which Hereford lost on penalties after a goalless draw, although Ingham did manage to save one of Yeovil's spot kicks.[7] He missed the tail end of the season through injury. He joined former club York City in May 2008 after being released by Hereford.[8]
