Micahel Helfert is a senior scientist at NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center from 1985 through 1994, has been chief scientist for the Earth observations made by 18 Space Shuttle missions. He is director of the Southeast Regional Climate Center and is the South Carolina state climatologist.
