[edit] Biography
Michael Campbell was born in Larne, County Antrim, in Northern Ireland, and made his solemn profession as a member of the Order of St. Augustine, more commonly known as the Augustinians, on September 17, 1966.
He was ordained to the priesthood on September 16, 1971, in the chapel of Austin Friars School in Carlisle. Campbell later taught at the same school, and was Episcopal Vicar for religious in the Diocese of Lancaster from 1990 to 1999. He then served as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Westminster.
On February 12, 2008, Campbell was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Lancaster by Pope Benedict XVI. As Coadjutor, he will serve as the designated successor of the current Bishop of Lancaster, Patrick O'Donoghue, who is scheduled to retire in 2009. He was both "humbled and deeply touched"[1] at his nomination.
Campbell received his episcopal consecration on the following March 31, in St. Peter's Cathedral.
