Michael Fearnley

Michael Carruthers Fearnley was a first class cricketer who played 3 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 1962 to 1964 against Essex CCC, Surrey CCC and Warwickshire CCC.
A right arm medium pacer, he took 6 wickets at just 22.16 with a best of 3 for 56 on debut against Essex. A left handed bat, he scored 19 runs at 9.5 with a top score of 11*.
He also appeared for Yorkshire Second XI from 1959 to 1966, Nottinghamshire Second XI in 1960 and a Bradford League representative side in 1967.
His brother, Duncan Fearnley, played 97 games for Worcestershire CCC and founded the well known bat company while his nephew, Paul Fearnley played some Second XI cricket for the same county team.
Born on August 21, 1936 in Horsforth he died on July 7, 1979 in East Bierley, Bradford aged 42 while playing in a Bradford League match for Farsley CC, whom he captained with distinction. He had been a prolific wicket taker in the leagues over a long playing career. He was Chairman of the Association of Cricket Coaches and an assistant coach with Yorkshire CCC.
