Michael Eppelstun
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Michael "Eppo" Eppelstun is considered the father of the new school of bodyboarding. In the early 1990s he popularized tricks never before tried, such as the ARS (air-roll spin) and backflip. The ARS was realised after trying fellow Australian bodyboarder Ben Holland's "twisted air reverse". Eppo was one of the first bodyboarders to shift bodyboarding from a fluid, surf-like style to the extreme, aerial and trick oriented sport it is today.
He was also the first Australian to win a world title. His legacy is being carried forward today by the likes of Jeff Hubbard who are pushing the sport to a new edge and inventing new tricks.
Eppo now runs two bodyboard stores in Queensland Australia, called "bodyboardshop". One at Burleigh Heads and his personally attended store in Moolooolaba, both with a common internet base at www.bodyboardshop.com. These are very successful businesses and Eppo os a major supporter of bodyboarding and its up and coming riders in Australia.
