Michael Cheika

Michael Cheika is the head coach of Leinster Rugby. Michael Cheika was appointed Leinster boss on the 26th May 2005. Cheika has been in charge of Australian club Randwick and brought assistant David Knox with him to Ireland.

"The new Leinster coach described his appointment as "a fantastic opportunity".

"The class level of player is high here and to implement the type of game plan that I will look to introduce you need top quality players," said Cheika. "I'm looking forward to competing again in the Heineken Cup. I have some experience of what to expect from my time in Italy. "David (Knox) will bring a lot of innovation and a new way of looking at back play to Leinster. He will help us to evolve a 15-man game and I'm looking forward to this exciting opportunity." "We pride ourselves on being coaches who can give skills, while at the same time having a bit of an edge".

Cheika has signed a two year extension as head coach with Leinster. Leinster will also have Alan Gaffney available to bolster the tactical expertise of the Australian. Leinster could become a serious treat if this partnership works and there is no reason to suggest it won't[.[1]

Michael shocked friends recently when he sprung a surprise wedding ceremony on them. The previous evening, Cheika had a night out with friends, who were not alerted to the fact it was actually his buck's party. The next day, they all gathered for lunch at Woolloomooloo, where Cheika abruptly changed into something smarter and a wedding proceeded. The couple's parents weren't even let in on the secret.
