Michael Carty

Michael Carty (16 December 1916 – 23 April 1975) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. Born in Loughrea, Co. Galway to Lawrence and Josephine Carty, he was the eldest of seven children. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1957 general election. He served as a TD for various Galway constituencies until 1973 when he retired from politics. He served in the goverlnment of Seán Lemass on one occasion as Government Chief Whip, occupying the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach and to the Minister for Defence.
