Michael Brothwell was a presenter at BBC Radio York, hosting the weekly North Yorkshire Folk show, and the Sunday Set.
He was a student at the University of York and a presenter on University Radio York; he presented "Sunday Breakfast" and "The Nation's Favourite". He was also a Proctor of the York Union Society.
He is now a Director of Leeds Brewery.
Michael was 22 years old when he started hosting the folk show on BBC Radio York in 2005. He championed many Yorkshire based folk artists (nu-folk and traditional) of all ages. As well as playing a broad range of folk styles on the programme, he held 'live sessions' featuring local and touring international acts. During what seemed to be his brief tenure presenting the folk show he had interviewed the legendary Nic Jones, Martin Carthy, Jim Moray and Kate Rusby and a host of other well known artists from the world of folk. A pleasant, mild mannered presenter, he and the programme were axed in 2007 following a BBC Radio York shake up. Michael was often referred to as 'The John Peel of Folk', which wouldn't be far from the mark.
