Michael Best is the former principal artist of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. He received an A.B. from Duke University in 1962. He is currently the head of the Voice Department at Roosevelt University in Chicago. He teaches voice and sang at the Metropolitan Opera 297 times. He also originated the role of Toby in The Rise and Fall of the city of Mahagonny.
