Michael Bertiaux was born in Seattle, WA. His father was a captain in the merchant navy and his mother was a prominent theosophist. Bertiaux completed his BA
For a period Michael Bertiaux was a secretary of the Theosophical Society until moving to Chicago where he trained and qualified as a social worker, a job he remained in for just under forty years. He worked especially with the Haitian communities. After his retirement Bertiaux has been focussed on his art and writing.
Bertiaux's life is chronicled in Kenneth Grant's book, Cults of the Shadow.
