The michelson interferometer experimental apparatus.

Is the beamsplitter facing the wrong direction? Yes, the beamsplitter direction is wrong - it should be facing the opposite direction so half of the beam is reflected to one mirror while the other half of the beam passes straight through to the other mirror.
