[edit] CrazyRussian's RfA
Image:Motherussia.jpg Hello Miborovsky, and thank you for your support at my request for adminship, which ended with an awe-inspiring 86/1/2 result. I plan to do much with my shiny new tools - but I'll start slow and learn the ropes at first. Please deluge me with assignments and requests - I enjoy helping out. For Mother Russia!! - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 05:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC) [edit] Thank you
Hi Miborovsky/Archive 5, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I would like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 15:01, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[edit] Script kill request.

[edit] Fnhddzs on FG page again violated the 3RR rules
Fnhddzs is again violating the 3RR rules. He reverted the same material 4 times within the last 15 hours. He should be blocked.
21:35, 15 June 2006 Fnhddzs (no way to keep "illegal") 14:42, 15 June 2006 Fnhddzs (with just a few hours vote notice, I could not have time to visit wiki. I was busy. You said we CAN revise) 06:26, 15 June 2006 Fnhddzs (add citations) 06:16, 15 June 2006 Fnhddzs (according to the original wording: "deem it to be illegal", delete western)
The following people reverted Fnhddzs.
06:19, 15 June 2006 CovenantD 07:03, 15 June 2006 Samuel Luo (Rv to ConventD. Fnhddzs, why didn't you reject when you could?) 18:24, 15 June 2006 Samuel Luo (Intro. Start a conversation on the talk page and you can only change it when others agree with you.) 21:57, 15 June 2006 Yenchin (This is becoming laughable.)--Samuel Luo 23:03, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
The edit summaries of his first two do not reflect his edits. He did the same thing in all four of his edits: placing “for its illegal activities” with “after deeming it to be illegal” and delete “western” in the 2nd paragraph of intro. --Samuel Luo 00:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Miborovsky If you checked carefully, I just did very small changes about two words "alleged" and "western". Please correct your mistake. I may report you for unimpartial adminstration. Fnhddzs Almost everybody (except Samuel Luo) revert cj. cawley's edits, please do not confuse with that. Fnhddzs
- 3RR is applicable regardless of the scale of change. I have warned cj cawley to cease his disruptive editing on the talk page, but the edit war on the main space article is of a content dispute. Also, this is not the first time you have threatened to "report me". Feel free to consult WP:RFC/USER, and if you think I am partial in my admin duties, file a complaint. In addition, you used your current IP to revert another time. If you do not stop I will increase your block time and block your IP as well as semi-protect the main article page. -- Миборовский 02:53, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- ok. You are actually threatening me. I complained to you directly about the seeming unimpartialness. But I had never filed an official complaint. But you have your power, I hope you don't abuse it. If you merely punish me by complaints to you. Then you should be reported. Fnhddzs 03:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- WP:3RR clearly states that "Using sockpuppets (multiple accounts) to avoid this limit is a violation of WP:SOCK". I have the discretion to extend your block if you are found using sockpuppets or anon IP addresses to bypass 3RR, which you did. -- Миборовский 03:09, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- If other editors have been violating 3RR the right course of action would be to report it, not escalate the edit war. -- Миборовский 02:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- May I ask you what is revert? I think people reverted mine. Fnhddzs
- I don't "believe" Samuel Luo... he reported a 3RR violation, and I acted on it. If he breached 3RR, I block him all the same. A revert is this. -- Миборовский 03:09, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- No. I did not revert. They reverted mine. I told you I discussed on the talk page. but nobody responded. I am reporting you about their 3RR. Fnhddzs
Also I report you that Yueyuen and Samuel Luo are puppet accounts. I hope you are smart. Fnhddzs
- I have unblocked you so that you may file a complaint against me. If you edit the Falun Gong article within 24 hours of my prior block of you it will be blocked again. -- Миборовский 03:30, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Are you sure. It's nice of you. I will cancel my complaint. I will be more patient of edits. Have a nice dayFnhddzs
- Your 24 hour block still stands, unfortunately. -- Миборовский 03:48, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I am somewhat responsible for one of his reverts. I inadvertantly changed something that he had done when I made some changes. I didn't realize I'd made a mistake until he had reverted. Just setting the record straight. CovenantD 04:00, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I see... thanks for telling me. -- Миборовский 04:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- 06:31, 15 June 2006 Fnhddzs (→Beliefs and teachings)
- 06:26, 15 June 2006 Fnhddzs (add citations)
I checked, Fnhddzs’s revert has nothing to do with CovenantD’s mistake. One of Fnhddzs’s two edits shown above corrected the mistake and the other reverted the paragraph in question. And he reverted two more times with his IP address and now I believe he is reverting with a new user name "MyuserName". Can you block his IP address? --Samuel Luo 05:55, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Can you semi-protect the FG article so newly created accounts can not make change to it? Crystalblue, a new account just reverted the same material again. --Samuel Luo 06:14, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Миборовский After dealing with the Falun gong nuts for several years, I tend to get a little carried away with their cult. The crap that F???? was trying to pull on you is very typical. I had five of the FLG nuts try to explain to me that I had to forgive my wife. Needless to say, they failed. You can expect them to hit you pretty hard with all of their crap. Sam's comment about protecting the page is a valid idea. Thanks Cj cawley 10:01, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Миборовский I have continually cited valid off the net references. CovenantD has repeatedly violated the 3RR rule in two areas. First, research is not the same as a survey. That's basic English and Statistics. Second, in my court case "Master" Li the head of FLG was served a subpoena to appear before the court. I can fax you copies. Please hold CovenantD to the 3RR rule. Thanks 172.151.19.109 00:52, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- You need to show me 4 diffs which show that CovenantD reverted. -- Миборовский 02:50, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] protect the page
Fnhddzs has asked friends (other practitioners) to help, presumably, with his reverts. This is what he said: “I had called for friends to join and they came for help. Hehe. It seems it is kind of late but that is what happened.” [3] To avoid a major revert war, I suggest that the article be protected now. Edits can be made after discussion. --Samuel Luo 07:20, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fnhddzs on Falun Gong page
Dude, This bot is at it again. I made numerous citations outside and on the net that they just refuse to accept. In truth, they can't accept them. BTW, Master Li, the head of the cult, was just served with a subpoena to appear in court as a witness. If he accepts, then he's a fool. If he rejects, then it will be plastered all over the papers. Please block Fnhddzs, thanks Cj cawley 01:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Idea popped into my head to form a taskforce to cover wars between the kingdoms of the Near East (including Ancient Egypt, Asia Minor, Israel/Palestine, Mesopotamia) (NOT including Graeco-Persian wars, which stay in Classical warfare taskforce) to cover the grey area before the Classical warfare taskforce. Plenty to work from (Category:Battles of Egypt, Category:Battles of Babylonia, Category:Battles of the Canaanites, Battle of Megiddo....), and can draw members from Wikipedia:WikiProject Ancient Egypt and Wikipedia:WikiProject Ancient Near East, which both need revivifying. Any thoughts? Reply at User talk:Neddyseagoon or at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#Ancient Near East taskforce? - I'm watching both Neddyseagoon 15:23, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Landmine War
That freaky template at the end of the page kept gobbling my question, so I elected to post it above the section. Anyway... a while ago, I asked you about this subject, and I doubt that I ever received your reply. I thought it best to resubmit the question:
- "What can you tell me about the 'Landmine War'? --Folajimi 00:20, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Wow. I have never had anyone be so overt about disseminating propaganda! :P Watch your back! --Folajimi 00:37, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry; I was laughing so hard, I forgot what I was going to ask you. Anyway, I wanted to know if it was fact or fiction. I had heard about the movies, but I was suprised when I saw a request for the entry in Wikipedia. I thought it was an actual occurence... --Folajimi 00:40, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Very well, I'll get to the article soon. In the meantime, could you please delete Aarktica and Jon DeRosa? Someone meddled while I was working on them a while ago; it was quite a buzzkill. Anyway, I've got some motivation now, and would like to start from a clean slate. Thanks! --Folajimi 01:00, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Accounts
Hi. I probably shouldn't be coming to you with a question like this, but since you are an admin. and I don't know where else to go, you might be able to get something done. I have had an account with Wikipedia for a long time. I while ago I found out about some of Wikipedia's sister projects and tried to log in to them, but I found to my dismay that the accounts did not transfer from one project to another. If maybe you could ask a higher up if they could do something about this, it would be much appreciated. Oh, and by the way, I noticed that you liked userboxes so here's one that I made that I am trying to get those obsessed with userboxes (like me) to use. :)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

The Military history WikiProject Newsletter
Issue IV - June 2006
- Project news
- Three new task forces have been started: Ancient Near East, Australian military history, and Maritime warfare.
- New infoboxes for military awards and weapons are nearing completion; any comments on the proposed designs would be extremely welcome!
- A system of article importance ratings has been introduced to accompany the existing article quality ratings. Help with rating articles would highly appreciated!
- From the Coordinators
Five months ago, as we were in the midst of coordinator elections, Loopy commented that "I don't think it's unrealistic to imagine this project as one of the most prominent and effective ones around in say, a year's time." Since then:
- We have grown from just under a hundred members to nearly 300, and appear to be the second largest WikiProject (lagging, curiously enough, behind WP:COMICS).
- From one small task force, we have grown to include seventeen.
- Instead of a hand-made worklist of a few hundred articles, we now have one that is quickly approaching 10,000, and forms nearly a third of the overall 1.0 worklist effort.
I'd say—without any unrealistic optimism—that we're well on our way to fulfilling those expectations!
Kirill Lokshin, Lead Coordinator
- Current proposals and discussions
- A discussion about the use of operational names in articles has started.
- Discussion continues about the role of "good articles" in the assessment process.

[edit] Mongols
Can you help me a bit with the history of Mongols prior to Ghenghis Khan. They were recognized by the Jin Empire and seem to have some link to the Liao-dynasty in China. After a defeat in 1150 when they were under the comand of Kabul Khan (spelling varies) civil war broke out untill Ghenghis Khan reunited them. It is mentioned that Chinese diplomacy played a part keeping them in civil war. Can you help me find out, what they did exactly? Thx. I think it is very useful to understand the later war between Song and Mongols. There is even a contemporary alliance between Southern Song and Mongols mentioned, prior to 1150.Wandalstouring 23:07, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese-speaking admin needed, and you were the first I found!
Hi,
Recently, I closed this MfD for an oddly-worded userpage (which resulted in a keep, incidentally.) In the process of notifying the user in question of the result, I noticed he hadn't been welcomed, and did so with the standard template. In response, I got a very long, somewhat confused note on my userpage (also posted at User talk:The Songbird ov Summer Place, which I post below as well.) The text was obviously written by a not-very-proficient-in-English speaker in Hong Kong, whom I'm assuming speaks Chinese. The note is very kind, addressed to me as a person "in authority" and requesting assistance. The user seems to be a professional musician of some sort. Beyond that, I can't make much of it. I thought, perhaps, that you might be best equipped to speak with the user in their native language; or, to know of another admin or trusted user who would do so. I leave this matter, gladly, in your capable hands. ;) (In recompense, if you need a wiki-favor ever, let me know!) Sorry, I just feel a little "clueless" about how to communicate with this person. Best wishes, Xoloz 14:02, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
The user's note:
Dear Xoloz,
My name is Sk Suzuki, I have read your Bio, and and I am writing for you. I just login today again, it has been a while, because I had just returned from Hong Kong for my global entertainment business talks.
I find difficult to edit Wikipedia on our matter. Because, it is unlike HTML or PhP and is new tom me, and it is not the matter of Sandbox things which I know, but I figure it out, that, whatever I wrote in was not searchable by the Internet / Yahoo. I was lingering in Wikipedia, looking at other samples, and wondered how others could be searched by Yahoo, while my writings in Wikipedia couldn't be searched.
On the other hands, it is very irritating that, amid of hard editing situation I was opposed by some smart people who wants to delete my articles as fast as 1 hour.
I found that we have basically two(2) areas, one is the Article and one is the User. I wonder of all these things. To tell you the truth
Anyway, we are still constructing official releases. My lawyers and public relations are still working on it.
I would be happy to pay someone "friendly" and Expert, who could edit and maintain our information in Wikipedia Encyclopedia by next year Summer / Fall. Someone who never opposed me but welcome me. Because, we don't have much time, skills, and even oftenly, we don't have time to monitor our page on this open source, we don't need oppositions.
The reason why I chose to protect the page was because, we are categorized as controversial entertainment producer by our legals. We are the official information owners. We don't treat this wikipedia as our private blog as how someone accused us. We can afford our own system outthere. However, we care if other people to deface our information and to mislead our readers, because of their vandalism intentions. It even took me for weeks to figure out how to put that padlock sign on our wiki page.
Xoloz, before I saw your warm welcome letter, I have already decided to Ban any article about us from Wikipedia. I already talked to my lawyers that I don't want any of our articles in the future to be placed by someone or anyhow in the Wikipedia, and regard it as unofficial information. This was because, I feel I am not welcomed by smart people in the pedia-world. We don't need to be harrassed by those people, merely just over the matter of free open-source.
However, Xoloz, since I read your words, who is the authority of the system, and in fact is more friendly than the common volunteer-editors, I have decided to appreciate Wikipedia once more. I know there are separations between real authority and busy bodies.
Therefore, I decide to edit this User Talk page and to put my words here, to be readable by Xoloz.
Xoloz, I can't reach you by email, or how to have dialogue with you on "My Talk", I saw one email column before, but when I came back, I can't see any. For my eyes, Wikipage is very dynamic, and things here today is hardly to find by the next day. It is very confusing to my eyes. Xoloz can reach me : songbirdsecretariat@yahoo.com
Once you have reach me and I verified that you are authentic, I will give you my direct contact.
Please kindly advise me, how long will a dormant page last? If it is soon to be wiped out, politely, we will choose to retreat from Wikipedia, until our lawyers and public relations finished their paper-works. The next time should we appear in here, I will pay a programmer expert for Wikipedia, the friendly one - we don't need the unfriendly one. This person in concern will start, edit, monitor, maintain and execute. I will never try anything else anymore with my hands on Wikisystem.
Looking forward, sincerely yours.

[edit] non-Beiyang warlords
Hello, I posted some of my concerns at the talk page of WP:CHINA and {{WP:MILHIST]], but then I have some more, not sure if you've read the noticeboard yet. I suppose this came up because I like categorising things, and then there is the definition of what is a warlord and what is not. The article warlord lists Mao Zedong and Zhu De as warlords, even. I've talked with someone who even regarded Sun Yat-Sen as a warlord, or even Chiang Kai-Shek. Where do we go on this?
Also, I notice that for some articles like Bai Chongxi, the article isn't too clear about how they became warlords in the first place. It would guess a lot of warlords may have been sons of Qing magistrates, or Qing governors (who declared their independence during the Xinhai Revolution)? Of course, that's my guess about how all these people born in the 1880s-1890s managed to control entire provinces so quickly. It's my opinion that we should have a greater article on the concept:
For example:
- Even in the Qing Dynasty, some governors were effectively their own regional warlords (this sort of made the warlord era inevitable)
- It seems that the Beiyang warlords are treated unfavourably and have their "warlord" characteristics emphasised (Feng Yuxiang, et al.) while the warlords friendly to KMT - though not necessarily to Chiang - (Li Tsung-Jen, Bai Chongxi...) don't concentrate too much on their role as military governors.
- Warlordism definitely lasted beyond 1916-1928
- Many warlords held positions in the central government, if anything the central government wasn't really any different from most other warlord governments (they all ruled by military might)
- It seems to be a recurring feature in Chinese history, enough to warrant two levels of scope
I have a feeling I over compensated in the lead of some articles, so I'd like advice about the matter. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 02:30, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nanjing Massacre
Ok, it's not worth having an edit war over tonight. John Smith's 22:41, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- What edit war? I corrected a technical error. If you want to make it a POV issue, that's your own bloody problem. Not mine. -- Миборовский 03:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Aren't we the nice, polite admin. Perhaps you should calm down and stop making silly allegations against other people. John Smith's 09:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- First of all, read what Nanshu wrote you on your talkpage. -- Миборовский 17:12, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Phaedriel 2
I replayed to your oppose vote in Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Phaedriel 2, 1 FA isn't a reason to oppose someone, and she does meets it anyways as 1FA can include Featured Portals, Lists and Images which she does meet with several Featured Portals. Jaranda wat's sup 18:46, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- 1FA has been used plenty of times in the past without this sort of reaction. The "Diablo Test", so to speak, has been used by plenty of users many a time for criteria to either support or oppose a candidate. Please respect other's opinions and criteria hoopydinkConas tá tú? 21:08, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Also, 1FA is not 1FP hoopydinkConas tá tú? 21:09, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] pictures of Chinese multiple prod siege crossbows
Hi
Some time ago you promised me some pictures from a site showing Chinese multiple prod siege crossbows. I am sure you forgot them, but it does not matter as long as you contribute them :))) Thank you Wandalstouring 19:32, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, you also promised to ask the owner of this pictures for permission because you know him. I hope he responds as amiable to my email now. Wandalstouring 08:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Miborovsky. That userbox you asked about, its not supposed to be white. I dont know why that happened. You probably don't even know what I'm talking about its been so long. :)
[edit] Hello
I would suggest that you initiate a movement to de-sysop all existing administrators not meeting FA status. Cheers and good luck. BTW, while I do believe that ultimately all pages should be as good as a FA, we are building an encyclopedia and not writing FAs. --Bhadani 17:16, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi there Miborovsky! I just wanted to drop you a line to say that your participation in RfA is both welcome and appreciated. Your employment of the 1FA standard is quite fine and a very valid reason, largely because it is your own and people should respect that (most do!). Scores of "votes" have been cast naming the 1FA standard as a reason to support or oppose a candidate. I hope you are not fazed by some of the recent comments and continue to speak your mind without fear of reproach. Cheers hoopydinkConas tá tú? 21:06, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- I would agree with you. However I encourage everyone to not view candidates in such a black and white fashion, and to recognize the the same values and attributes evidenced by writing a featured article can be evidenced in other ways. All you have to do is listen to them and have an open mind. AdamBiswanger1 15:14, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RfA
When you say articles in Q#2 of insufficient quality, would you mind enlightening me as to why you think so- perhaps on the article's talk pages?

[edit] 1FA
Hi there. I just wanted to ask you about your frequently cited 1FA requirement for your RFA standards. I am by no means criticizing you for this, but merely asking you more for your rationale to compare it with mine. See, I am also big on mainspace contributions, and I think that writing a featured article shows some amount of determination, intelligence, capability, and willingness to work on the part of the nominee. But I think that one can be incredibly helpful and involved without writing a featured article, and if I saw a candidate who created several very good articles but not one that has attained featured status, I would nevertheless be satisfied. Also, with more popular articles, it's hard to say who "wrote" it when it is usually a group effort, and many claim to have written featured articles when they were only part of a larger coalition, especially considering the (exponentially )growing number of editors on Wikipedia and static number of featured articles. What are your thoughts? AdamBiswanger1 15:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Taiyuan and Xinkou
I have expanded the article on the battle of Xinkou substantially since it is one of the 22 major engagements of the 2nd Sino-Japanese War, also the first time 3 parties (CCP, KMT, warlords) fought on a united front during the war. However, this battle overlapped with the battle of Taiyuan. Please take a look and advise on how to categorize or combine these two, thanks. DCTT 16:44, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures
1. The ditch photograph has not been claimed (that I could see) to be faked. In any case, there is independent verification that it was not, because it appeared in the journal. The only issue is whether or not it can be counted as part of the Nanjing massacres.
2. The water photograph was not claimed to be faked or staged. It was that the bodies were soldiers and/or couldn't be regarded as being casualties of Nanjing.
3. To say "revisionist Japanese historians" is POV, because it leaves out questions raised by other historians. Not everyone that says there are problems with the pictures says that Nanjing never happened. John Smith's 18:28, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- 1. I'll say it again, the issue of the ditch photo is one of location. It is that the captions are incorrect.
- 2. If you say "faked", the first thing people will thing of is that they were edited or something. When using a short caption, you need to think of the first thing someone will think about.
- 3. Revisionist has negative connotations. Again, people will think that means denialists. If there was a large section where you could explain the views more carefully, that might be more appropriate. But in any case, in similar articles I and other editors have kept the language careful. Over at the Armenian genocide, I avoided using accusatory terms like "revisionist" when describing individuals, because editors would complain it suggested the academics were denialists. The page is now locked indefinitely because some people wanted to use "Recognition and denial" to discuss pro/anti views, rather than "Support/Opposition". That is why I also want to avoid using terms like "revisionist" here. John Smith's 19:28, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- 1. & 2. Why not just leave the current edits?
- 3. I didn't suggest anything. Originally it was a case of support/oppose (the idea that the killings in Armenia were genocide), then someone wanted recognition/denial. John Smith's 19:59, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I've put some new ones up. Mind the 3RR of course - your next edit will be your fourth. John Smith's 11:40, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- In that case, can you come up with an edit that doesn't use terms like "revisionist", "fake", etc? And please don't swear on my talk page. John Smith's 14:26, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
