Mian Mohammed Sharif (born December 25, 1949 - died October 22, 1997) was the Surveyor General (S.G.) of Pakistan from March 1974 to mid of 1981.
Mian Sahib, as he was affectionately known by his friends and colleagues, was born in Singhpur, Punjab, in India. He excelled in his studies as a student and obtained a B.A (Honours) in Mathematics from D.A.V College Dayanand Anglo-Vedic Schools System in Jalandhar. He married Zubaida Khatoon, daughter of Dr. Badr-ud-Din of Railway Road, Jalandhar, and sister of his childhood friend Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman graduate of King Edward Medical University and an FRCS of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
M.M.Sharif joined the Survey of India [1] during the early 1940s. He was the only Muslim officer to be selected, along with a Hindu and an English officer. After the Partition he migrated to Pakistan and joined the Survey of Pakistan [2] and served as OC, Deputy Director Photogrammetry, Director Map Publications, Director Field Surveys and Surveyor General of Pakistan. His postings included Dehradun, Murree, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Sylhet in East Pakistan. As Surveyor General he served under the governments of President Yahya Khan, Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Chief Martial Law Administrator General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. He was the last civilian to serve as the Surveyor General of Pakistan. All subsequent S.G.'s are now Pakistan Army officers of Major General rank. He was preceded by Mr. Hassan and the succeeding S.G. was Brigadier Syed of the Pakistan Army.

Mr. Sharif died on October 22, 1997, in the family home in Rawalpindi, reputedly of a broken heart a year after the murder of his beloved wife.[citation needed] He is survived by his four grown children: Mrs. Sabha Naeem, wife of retired Brigadier Naeem (RVFC), Farooq Zakhi, Daud Sharif & Zubair Sharif and four grandchildren.
