Miami Fusion F.C. was a professional soccer club located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida that participated in Major League Soccer from 1998 to 2001. The club played in Lockhart Stadium, which was a former high school stadium converted into a soccer-specific stadium. Major League Soccer's contraction following the 2001 season reduced the league from 12 to 10 teams, with the Miami Fusion and their fellow Florida club, the Tampa Bay Mutiny, ceasing operations.
It is possible MLS may return to Miami in the future; however, it is unclear if the new team would be a continuation of the Fusion. Miami F.C. of the United Soccer Leagues play out of Lockhart Stadium with a small remnant of Fusion fans amongst their fanbase.
