Mia (pronounced Mee-uh) is a popular name for girls in England, the United States, in Germany, where it was in the top 10 names for baby girls in 2006, and in other countries. It originated as a Scandinavian pet name for Maria.[1] In the book and film The Princess Diaries, the main character is named Mia, but her name is a nickname for Amelia.
