[edit] WP:Films Welcome
Hey, welcome to the Films WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of films and film characters. If you haven't already, please add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your user page.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Most of our important discussions about the project itself and its related articles take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a monthly newsletter. The newsletter for January has been published. February's issue is currently in production; it will be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There is a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Want to jump right into editing? The style guidelines show things you should include.
- Want to assist in some current backlogs within the project? Visit the Film Tasks template to see how you can help.
- Want to know how good our articles are? Our assessment department has rated the quality of every film article in Wikipedia. Check it out!
- Want to collaborate on articles? The Cinema Collaboration of the Week picks an article every week to work on together.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Nehrams2020 04:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Quills
I see you have been doing a lot of work on Quills. Keep up the good work, we appreciate members who work hard to improve the quality of film articles. If the article is well-written, has plenty of sources, and is of sufficient length, you can nominate it to be a Good Article, one of the highest levels of quality an article can reach (Featured Articles are the highest). Look over some other GA film articles to see how you can continue to improve the article and what standards it needs to meet. Again, good work, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page. --Nehrams2020 20:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Good work so far, I have upgraded the article to B class. If you think an article should receive a particular class, feel free to change it. The article doesn't automatically change based on content (I wish it did!), but solely based on the editors' interpretation of the article. I have assessed thousands of articles, but it's hard to keep up with the ones that have already been assessed at a particular class. If you ever want a better assessment (if you plan to improve another film article after Quills, which I hope you do since you're doing such a great job), list the article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Assessment#Requesting an assessment, and I can usually take a look within a few days. Anyway, I went through the article and adjusted some minor formatting and spelling issues. I think if you continue to address the issues in the to-do list on the talk page and maybe add a section about the DVD release, production of the film, marketing for the film, or any other relevant sections that could continue to improve the article. Make sure to add a fair use rationale for the poster of the film as well, or the article would automatically fail before a GA review. I hope these comments helped, but let me know if you have any further questions or if you want further clarification and I'll be happy to help. I think you're close to GA, but just need some more expansion. --Nehrams2020 00:38, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think the usually most widely accepted practice is to leave text as prose rather than converting it to bullet points. In Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines#Trivia (although this isn't trivia), it recommends to keep the text in prose. If you're having trouble with the text not flowing well after you add more information or sources, ask another editor to copyedit it. Most bulleted lists occur when non-WP:Film editors or IP addresses want to add trivia tidbits (that is usually unsourced). It's likely that a GA reviewer would ask you to convert the bullets to prose, so my recommendation is to again keep working at it and ask an editor or two to review it (besides me, of course). Now that you're adding books as sources is great, because it continues to add more verifiability to the sources in the article. Let me know if you want further clarification. --Nehrams2020 02:57, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
