That's fine. Actually, fixing your archive was useful feedback. It looks like you followed the instructions at Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page, which I re-wrote last week to try to make them easier to understand. However, I was only thinking of article discussion pages at the time, and I realize now they don't quite make sense when applied to user talk pages, so I've changed part of the instructions to be clearer – Gurch 14:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alloy and alloyer

I thought that an alloyer was something added to molten metal, or to metal which will be melted, to make an alloy. E.g., if I throw some pure niobium into molten steel, to make niobium steel, I am making an alloy, but I am not adding an alloy. Anthony Appleyard 09:56, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Secretariat (horse)

You commented on my Secretariat entry. Horses do not have to do anything to qualify for the Belmont other than have their owners pay an entry fee. It happened that three nondescript horses were running for purse money-- the only two contenders were Secretariat and Sham. And the article makes a lot of the 31 length win.

Yes, the time is fast, but the weakness of the field is a big issue.

In terms of major races won by more than 31 lengths, Chris Evert beat Miss Musket by 50 lengths, and Man O' War won the 1920 Lawrence Realization by 100 lengths. In the Belmont, nobody else won by 31, but Count Fleet won in 1943 by 25, and several horses, such as Bet Twice in 1987, have won it by 14 or more. It's really not that difficult at 1 1/2 miles on the dirt, because that distance can tend to produce runaway winners.

[edit] Information left on my USER page that should be on this TALK page

An anonymous IP user left this on my USER page:

[edit] Edit of 332nd Engineer General Service Regiment (United States)

Your edit to the V2 section of the 332nd Engineer General Service Regiment (United States) article was too extensive of an edit, to chop out so much without a good explanation. Please explain your reasons for such extensive editing. I also recommend that you register with Wikipedia. Anonymous IP editors are difficult to communicate with. Mfields1

[edit] Actual Peer Review

Since an actual peer review has not been conducted to confirm whether the cited document supports the V-2 rocket claims by Mfields1, a request for the relevant pages has been made.[1] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.160.168.82 (talkcontribs) 12:08, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please discuss deletions on the talk page

Editor at IP 65.208.246.114, would you discuss content on the talk page before wholesale deletion? 'Crossbow and Overcast' describes the activities by 332nd and others in June 1945: "Thus, as of June 21, 1945, the Americans appeared to have won almost all of the V-2 spoils of war and an unbeatable lead over their Soviet and British allies in using them to build a long-range rocket program". This is an accurate assessment of the first part of the activities (gathering the equipment, people and plans) and is the end of the chapter. Two pages later the author describes "Overcast". In America there was debate on whether to bring the German scientists to America. In Europe there was no debate at all. "British and Soviet Intelligence were making an intensive effort to lure hose same scientists away from the Americans." (see page 190). To obtain even these last documents were needed and important in the overall big picture. This is why the 332nd was visited by Von Braun, Dr. Porter and Major Staver. They were in the right position to retrieve the documents most expeditiously. There was a timetable set by the Potsdam conference, where Americans had to move away from certain areas to allow Russions in these areas and in exchange the Americans would be given a sector of Berlin. They were not planning to risk going into the territories (then) held by the Russians and British for an exercise. This is the importance of this. I will work out some way to describe it in the article. If you don't like the description then change it without simply deleting it. Mfields1 21:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I will leave this on the Talk page for a while, until the talk page is archived. Please leave comments on this page. Mfields1 01:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}} I have contributed a lot to the article 332nd Engineer General Service Regiment (United States) over a long period of time. An anonymous editor has deleted a lot of material I added. The material was sourced to a published book but the editor ignored repeated requests to discuss the deletions. I tried to make the edits seem more "acceptable" to this editor but all requests for comment were ignored. Rather get into a protracted edit war wit reversions, etc. I chose to quit editing the article although a fair amount of sourced detail I added is now deleted. Is there any way (short of reverting) to ask someone for advice on improvements from where the article stood two weeks ago? A long time ago I submitted the article for a review and have been working hard to improve the article quality. Now it seems that a lot of work is down the drain. Sorry to be whining a lot but if there is something I have missed in the procedures I would like to know it. If I have the wrong concept on how Wikipdeia works (I learn more every edit and have been at it for a couple years) then I'll quietly leave the editing to the people who can do drive by deletions. Any help on how to get back on track is appreciated. Mfields1 00:19, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

List the concern on WP:ANI. Miranda 01:16, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
It appears that your many attempts at communicating have been met with silence. I left a message about communication on Wikipedia. I hope it is effective in prompting dialog. Let me know either way. Incidentally, given that the IP has been inactive for a week, you can now exert more editorial control over the article. This isn't to say it's OK to disregard any legitimate concerns the IP may have had, but if something was done without explanation, there's no reason now that you can't reverse it. It's all in the page history.--Chaser - T 02:07, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

The user at IP 68.43.27.3 added this comment to my USER page: "Brian Roether has transformed the technology department at Hamtramck High School. [edit] Franklin, Ohio

I'm not sure why you're confused about the tag. There are eight separate lines/paragraphs, only one of which is referenced, plus one with an external link that I'm assuming is an unformatted reference. Even if the references cover all the material above them, it leaves two lines/paragraphs with no references. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you somehow: if so, would you please explain? Nyttend (talk) 23:49, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Joe Howley

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Joe Howley, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Joe Howley. Thanks for uploading Image:332nd EGSR logo by BPF.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:332nd Co D Training 1942 Jul 4.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:332nd Co D Training 1942 Jul 4.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
