(Article in progress userfied for creator to fix) "Would it be possible for users to be sitting in their pajamas while learning, or engaging in an interactive experience with a Web component, regardless of the technology or medium involved?"

If the answer is no, the project in question probably speaks to core competencies of an HCI development group; if yes, a better outcome might be expected from a Web development group.

This intellectual exercise was designed to help focus thinking, and simplify decision-making regarding when interactive project work is best assigned to either Web or HCI focused development groups. Such determinations become increasingly complex when developers are tasked with creating experiences that involve web-based components that integrate with mobile devices or networked objects.

The term pajama test was first used at the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco, in the context of exhibit development projects.
