Do we really need an article for a nation that's not going to compete? Sam Vimes 19:00, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, it has some interesting info why Mexico does not participate in Torino. Such a question "do we really need this article?" could be asked about numerous articles in Wikipedia. If you think it should be deleted then put it up to vote.--Nitsansh 23:27, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
True; it's asked on a regular basis ;) It's never gonna be much more than a stub, though. Besides, I'd like the categories such as Category:Mexico at the Olympics to only include the times the nation turned up - so I'd prefer if this was turned into a redirect to 2006 Winter Olympics when the games are over. No need to drag in AFD people. Sam Vimes 23:39, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, I checked other articles on nations that intended to participate in the 2006 winter Olympics but eventually didn't. This is the only one that has an explanation why the NOC decided not to participate. That makes a difference. In terms of quantity, it isn't going to be shorter than a dozen or so nations that send one athlete to the Olympics, and presumably won't get any significant results. It was useless to add a medals chart for all nations in the Olympics when at best a third of them will get on the medals chart. Who says we need an article for each nation that participate in the Olympics?--Nitsansh 00:26, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm someone who thinks that every nation that attends an Olympics deserves a page with their athletes' results. This page was originally created when the Torino2006 site listed Mexico with a bobsleigh team, a skeleton team, and at least the one Alpine guy. Instead of immediately putting the article up on AfD, I thiought it would be worthwhile to leave the page with the description of why there is no Mexican delegation and then AfD it after the Olympics. Makes sense - except, as I said, we don't have to AfD it just to redirect it. Sam Vimes 08:58, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

I suggest we merge all the articles about non-competing states into one (Mexico, Morocco, Jamaica... the one that were considered to participate, of course). Suggested title: Nations not competing at the 2006 Winter Olympics. --Tone 22:05, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
