Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference

The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference or MIC is an interscholastic secondary high school athletic conference based in Central and West Central Indiana. The conference was formed in 1996 when independent schools joined schools from other Indiana conferences that were reorganizing or splitting up to form the new conference.

All are current participating institutions. Ben Davis, Carmel, Center Grove, Lawrence North, North Central, and Warren Central were the six original teams in the conference line-up. Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South joined in 1997.

[edit] Premiere competition

The MIC is considered to be one of the premiere high school athletic conferences in the nation. Each year the conference features some of Indiana's best teams in each Indiana High School Athletic Association sport.Carmel won the 2007 Class 5A State Football Championship. Prior to that, Warren Central had won the last four Class 5A State Football Championships, with Ben Davis claiming three titles in four years before them. A MIC team has reached the 5A State football championship every year since 1999, with the MIC representative winning everytime except once.

In basketball, Lawrence North has won three of the last four Class 4A state boys basketball titles. North Central has won two of the last three girls basketball Class 4A titles.

Carmel High School has won 21 straight girls swimming and diving state championships. Warren Central won the 2005 and 2006 cross country state titles. The Carmel men's team has won ten state titles.

In baseball, the Center Grove High School coach, Dave Gandolph, has recently won his 600th high school baseball game with the majority coming at Center Grove. He has amassed 24 straight winning seasons in a row at Center Grove and in 2007 is off to his 25th as the Trojans are 13-0 and #1 in the state to start the season. Their winning tradition continues.

And the list goes on.

The MIC also competes in other areas besides athletics. For example, there is a MIC choir competition and a MIC speech and debate tournament. Several of the MIC schools also compete in radio and television broadcasting as part of the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters.
