Sydney's Private Bus Regions were run by a host of small family owned companies. Some of these company's included Bosinjaks of Edensor Park, Bowman's of St Marys,Calabro's of Bonnyrigg, Leslie's of South Blacktown, Liverpool Transport of West Hoxton, Oliveri's Metrolink Buslines of Green Valley, Hopkinson's Coach Company, Sydney, Nevilles of Casula, North & Western of Gladesville, Parramatta Bus Company of Northmead, Parramatta - Ryde or Trailer Tours of Rydalmere, Toongabbie Transport of Toongabbie, Western Rd of Prospect. These are only some of the family owned bus companies that where in Sydney. On 17 March 2004, the New South Wales, Minister for Transport released the Final Report of the Hon Barrie Unsworth's Review of Bus Services in NSW. Before 2005 Sydney's Bus operating contracts were cut up into 87 small contract areas. After recommendations from Mr Unsworth's report. the 87 small contract regions were consolidated into 15 larger regions. In 2012 under recommendations from the Unsworth Report the current 15 contract regions will be culled to 8 regions.

Most of the small private family owned companies have fallen by the way side or been bought by large multinational companies, which include ComfortDelGro_Cabcharge which is a consortium of ComfortDelGro Singapore and Cabcharge Australia, Transdev and Veolia Transport a few exceptions still defy the odds of being taken over, these include Caringbah Bus Service of Caringbah, Crowther's (Bus Link) also of Caringbah, Forest Coach Lines, Hopkinson's Coach Company, Sydney.

  • Region 1: Is bound by Regions Regions 2, 3, 4 & 15
  • Region 2: Is bound by Regions 1, 3, 13 and 15
  • Region 3: Is bound by Regions 1, 2, 4 and 13
  • Region 4: Is bound by Regions 1, 3, 7, 12 and 13
  • Region 5: Is bound by Regions 6, 7, 10 and 13
  • Region 6: Is bound by Regions 5, 7, 9, 10 and 13
  • Region 7: Is bound by Regions 4, 6, 8, 9, 12 and 14
  • Region 8: Is bound by Regions 7, 9 and 14
  • Region 9: Is bound by Regions 6 and 7
  • Region 10: Is bound by Regions 5, 6, 11 and 13
  • Region 11: Is bound by Regions 10
  • Region 12: Is bound by Regions 4, 7, 8 and 14
  • Region 13: Is bound by Regions 2, 3, 5, 6 and 10
  • Region 14: Is bound by Regions 7, 8 and 12
  • Region 15: Is bound by Regions 1 and 2

With Changed Boundaries

  • Region 1: Stays the same as in 2005 but bounded by New Regions 2 and 3
  • Region 2: Is the old Region 4 & bounded by New Regions 1, 3, 5 and 8
  • Region 3: Is made up from the old Region 2, 3 and 15 which is bounded by New Regions 1, 2, and 4
  • Region 4: Is made up from the old Region 5, 10, 11 and 13 which is bounded by New Regions 3 and 6
  • Region 5: Is the old Region 7 which is bounded by New Regions 2, 6 and 8
  • Region 6: Stays the same as in 2005 but bounded by New Regions 4, 5 and 7
  • Region 7: Is the old Region 9 and is bounded by Region 6
  • Region 8: Is made up from the old Region 8, 12 and 14 and is bounded by the New Regions 2 and 5
