Metrojaya is a popular retail company in Malaysia which offers items at a medium-to-high rate. They opened their first store in 1976. Metrojaya's latest outlet was in Berjaya Times Square which began operations in 2006, replacing Debenhams, which only operated for 3 years in this mall.

Metrojaya currently has 6 outlets in Peninsular Malaysia namely Mid Valley Megamall, Berjaya Times Square, Plaza Pelangi, Island Plaza, Bukit Bintang Plaza and The Curve, Mutiara Damansara.

The Metrojaya group currently operates a chain of five department stores and more than 70 specialty stores that occupy over one million square feet of floor space.

The company is principally involved in operating departmental stores and investment holding whilst its subsidiary companies are principally involved in property holding, investment holding as well as the operating of specialty stores and general merchandising stores. Metrojaya Department Stores offer a wide range of merchandise that cater to the needs and tastes of middle and high income groups. Metrojaya Berhad operates a chain of Department Stores at Bukit Bintang Plaza, Mid Valley Megamall and Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur, Plaza Pelangi in Johore Bahru and Island Plaza in Penang. Metrojaya operates nationwide chains of specialty stores under the East India Company, Somerset Bay, Cape Cod and Living Quarters brand labels in addition to the Reject Shop discount store chain. The group operates one hypermarket store under the Cosmart name at the Bukit Jambul Complex in Penang and one "MJ by Metrojaya" Fashion Concept Store at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara.

The retail operations can be broadly classified as:

  • a) Ladies Department (includes apparel and accessories);
  • b) Gents Department (includes apparel and accessories);
  • c) Juniors Department (for teens and young adults)
  • d) Children Department;
  • e) Homes Department (includes Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom, Garden);
  • f) Cosmetics and Fragrances.
