[edit] Background

Metro Station was started by Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso in 2006 after their mothers introduced them to each other on the set of Hannah Montana, since Mason's brother, Mitchel, and Trace's half-sister, Miley, are on Hannah Montana. Since they both shared musical interest, they decided to use it in the creation of a band. Shortly after, Cyrus recruited Blake Healy from Synthetic Joy (over a Myspace message) as a keyboardist and synthesizer, while Musso remained the lead vocalist, and Cyrus the lead guitarist. The trio together recorded the demo track "Seventeen Forever", which they released on their Myspace Music website. It became an instant hit. The track gained the attention of percussionist Anthony Improgo, who was soon added as the band's drummer. With the four of them, they quickly became popular on Myspace Music, topping the Myspace Music Unsigned Band's charts. An intern in Columbia Records' Walking Eye program discovered the band while looking through the Myspace Music charts, and they were signed shortly thereafter.[2]

In the July 2007 issue of Alternative Press, an indie music magazine, Metro Station was listed as one of the "22 Best Underground Bands (That Likely Won't Stay Underground for Long)".[3]

The band released their first full length album on September 18, 2007, along with releasing the singles "Kelsey" and "Control" produced by Joshua Cain and Justin Pierre of the power pop band Motion City Soundtrack.

The single "Shake It" appeared as the free "Single of the Week" in Apple's iTunes Store on October 16, 2007.

Metro Station opened for the band Cobra Starship, along with We the Kings and The Cab on Cobra Starship's 2007-08 USA tour, "The Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour." They also opened for Panic at the Disco for their European tour in March 2008.

It has been announced that Metro Station and The Maine will support Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls on the "Soundtrack of Your Summer" tour.

They also went on tour opening up for Anberlin, Mae, and Motion City Soundtrack in the fall of 2007.

Metro Station has recently starting charting on music charts such as Much Music's daily 10 and the Billboard Hot 100. Metro Station recently went on tour with Forever the Sickest Kids and performed in the "Kiss 108" concert, as well as K-FEST. They have now come out with their own CD called Metro Station. It includes hits such as "Shake It" or "California".
