Methapyrilene is a pyridine antihistamine which was developed in the early 1950s. It has relatively strong sedative effects, to the extent that its primary use was as a medication for insomnia rather than for its antihistamine action. Methapyrilene is no longer used in most countries because it has been known to cause liver damage which can be potentially serious.
