Metha Wanapat

Metha Wanapat is the Director of the Tropical Feed Resources Research and Development Center TROFREC, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen Province, Thailand. Professor Wanapat has been devoted himself to research, education and innovation generation concerning feed development for ruminants and has been awarded the highest Professorship, the PC 11 in the field of animal nutrition particularly in ruminant nutrition and metabolism,the first one of its kind ever awarded in Thailand.

He is the pioneer in ruminants' metabolism, nutrition and feeding systems in Thailand particularly on the uses of local feed resoureces and feeding systems based on agricultural crop-residues, by-products and other alternative feed resources cassava hay, urea-treated rice straw,high-quality feed block,food-feed system etc especially for the livestock rural poor farmers and their well-beings. He has published more than 150 papers of his research work in the international journals, 6 texbooks and has been serving as a consultant and scientific advisor in many international organizations and internationally supported projects located around the world such as the International Foundation for Science,EU , the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas, and the International Livestock Research Institute etc.

  • Outstanding Purina Researcher Award by the Asian-Australasian Animal Production (AAAP) Societies

  • International Expert by Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture,P.R.China

He serves as an editorial board member for the AJAS,the Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences. Moreover, he has been serving since 1985 as the Advisor for the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Siences-Thailand IAAS-Thailand and for IAASWorld, to promote and facilitate the Exchange Program for the students around the world.

He has been married to Associate Professor Sadudee Wanapat, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University, Thailand and has one son, Mr. Chach(Data) Wanapat, who has recently completed his M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at Lehigh University and now planning to pursue Ph.D. degree in Financial Engineering at one of the top universities in this field.
