Meter operator

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Meter Operator or MOP is a type of organization in the UK energy industry that is responsible for installing and maintaining electricity and gas meters. Since 1998 there has been full competition for MOPs. This means that a supplier can choose the MOP for a particular supply, or the customer can instruct the supplier to appoint a MOP of their choice.

There is a requirement for all UK electricity meters to undergo a health, safety and security inspection and meter reading every 2 years.[1]

Electricity meters need to be replaced every 10 to 30 years, depending on the model.
