- Luke Jackson ("Distorted Vision")-Drums (Performed on July 17 1992 when Lars was injured on the Guns n Metallica Tour)
- Jeff Warner ("Damien Philips") - rhythm guitar (1982 - one gig so James could concentrate on singing.)
- John Marshall - rhythm guitar (1986 - James suffered from a broken wrist from a skateboarding accident, 1992 - James suffered burns from pyrotechnics at Montreal's Olympic Stadium when James only sang.)
- Kid Rock, Korn, and System of a Down - helped out when James injured his back while water-skiing prior to a show on July 7, 2000 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Dave Lombardo - drums (performed on June 6, 2004 when Lars Ulrich was unable to perform at the Download Festival.)
- Joey Jordison - drums (performed on June 6, 2004 when Lars Ulrich was unable to perform at the Download Festival.)
- Flemming Larsen - drums (performed on June 6, 2004 when Lars Ulrich was unable to perform at the Download Festival.)
