Metal Jukebox is a cover album by the Power Metal band Helloween.

[edit] Background

When producing Metal Jukebox, German heavy metal band Helloween changed its style and shifted to a more pop/metal style of music that remained only for the production of this album. The album was released in 1999. Helloween had traditionally been a power/heavy metal band comparable with Metallica in America. Its influence in European metal cannot be overstated and Metal Jukebox proved to be the first record that was mostly based on cover songs. The cover songs obviously include a Helloweenistic turn; a clear example could be Hocus Pocus, a cover of the Netherlands' progressive band Focus, which includes heavily distorted guitars and very heavy drumming; aspects that the original piece does not contain and are common in many of Helloween's compositions. The album also includes Jethro Tull, Cream, Beatles, David Bowie and ABBA covers, as well as covers of songs by other famous bands.
